On Your Gaydar: LGBTQ+ Brands in SATX

"True belonging doesn't require us to change who we are; it requires us to be who we are." Brene Brown

As we all know, the month of June has been deemed Pride Month, to honor the 1969 Stonewall Riots fighting for equality and fair treatment to those within the community. Since then, the LGBTQ+ community has done a tremendous job educating, opening doors and completely changing the game in many different industries, one major one being business. According to the US Chamber of Commerce, "The LGBT business owners that NGLCC represents generate over $1.7 trillion in economic impact, create jobs and innovate business solutions nationwide."

So, what better way to celebrate and show your support for the LGBTQ+ community than by supporting their businesses? For this article I wanted to keep it local, so, below I have created a list of LGBTQ brands to show your support for that are located right in San Antonio, Texas.

Cereal Killer Sweets - Started in 2018 in SATX, Chef Meg has done an amazing job turning this once popcorn shop to a full scale cereal treat shop and pastry house. With unique cooking creations to choose from and even some Delta infused options, there is something for every taste bud.

Cake Thieves Bakers - Offering delicious vegan pastries, treats and coffee, Cakes Thieves is a must-stop for any SATX coffee lover! Located at 1602 E. Houston Street at the Hackberry Market foodie complex, allow this adorably designed coffee shop to make your day just a bit sweeter.

Cafecito - This female LGBTQ+ owned coffee shop can satisfy any craving, serving charcuterie platters, their infamous chive and honey biscuits and other sweet or savory brunch options. Based out of the LocalSprouts food hub on the east side of San Antonio, Texas, Cafecito also offers pick up & delivery options for customers to be able to get their snack on both inside and outside of the store.

Lick Honest Ice Creams - Pushing the narrative that ice cream shouldn't only taste good, but should actually be good , their artisanal ice creams made with the purest ingredients make this a lick you won't want to miss! Ensuring the freshest ingredients sourced from family owned dairies in Texas and Wisconsin, being present in the entire process from cow to cone and the use of compostable cups, spoons and napkins are just a few ways Lick is proving that ice cream can make a difference.

No.9 and Statue of Design - This floral and gift retail concept store located at 1701 Blanco Rd San Antonio, TX, 78201, is the perfect shop to fulfill all of your unique gifting needs! Founded by David Garcia and Rick Gipprich Jr, the shop features original floral concepts, specialty sweet treats and handcrafted gifts with a French Creole and Mexican twist.

Very That - This Latina owned & operated clothing & home store is the perfect place for those looking to spice up their home with some witty humor and adorable designs. With a wide variety of inventory to choose from, Very That is the perfect place for all things Latina empowerment!

With San Antonio being a small town on the (very quick) rise, shopping with local businesses is the easiest and one of the most effective ways to support our community. While #PrideMonth is only officially for one month, lets, as people, always continue to make the conscious effort to support and most importantly, accept those around us. Remember that pride is so much more than a feeling, it's an attitude, wear it with confidence.
